Sporting CP have now officially announced to Portugal’s CMVM that Manchester United have informed them of their intention to pay Rúben Amorim’s release clause.
The Old Trafford club only parted ways with Erik ten Hag on Monday morning, and it’s not taken Manchester United much time at all to move forward for the man they want.
O Jogo have since published an update on the situation, and it brings in Manchester City and Hugo Viana. According to the Portuguese newspaper, Viana had planned to take Amorim to England as Pep Guardiola’s replacement the Sporting coach was happy with this.
O Jogo report Omar Berrada and Dan Ashworth are in Lisbon, and isn’t for the first time recently. The Manchester United pair are said to have also made the trip last week, showing they had plans even before Ten Hag was shown the door.
The Portuguese newspaper also reports that if Amorim’s exit is confirmed then Viana could leave Sporting in January for Manchester City, rather than waiting until next summer.
