Brighton and Hove Albion youngster Valentín Barco could find himself playing in a new position in the coming months at Sevilla.

That’s according to manager García Pimienta, via Estadio Deportivo, who has commented on the prospect of trying out the 20-year-old in new positions moving forwards.

Barco is spending the season on loan at Sevilla after being allowed to leave Brighton temporarily to establish himself in Spain and get minutes to aid his development.

Life at Sevilla has not been easy so far, with five appearances totalling 250 minutes to date and plenty of negative press about them.

Several reports this month have highlighted his struggles, with his problems from Brighton following him to Spain and refusing to let him go.

He was believed to be taking special measures to get back on track and another today indicated he could be handed a perfect opportunity to state his case, with a potential position change on the cards.

The belief is that the player may be better going forwards than defensively, something of a problem given he’s spent the majority of his career playing at left back.

García Pimienta has now commented on the matter in his press conference today and admitted a position change is on the cards.

“Given that Pedrosa is doing well in his ideal position, which I think is left-back, Barco can also play in other positions,” he said.

“For me, his ideal position would be left-back, but he could play in more advanced positions. He could play as a winger, inside midfielder, attacking midfielder or on the other foot.”
