Jhon Durán has starred for Aston Villa this season, scoring seven goals from 12 games in all competitions.

The striker netted the winner against Bayern Munich and in Aston Villa’s 2-0 victory over Bologna on Tuesday.

Unai Emery replaced Duran a minute after he scored against the Serie A side at Villa Park. The 20-year-old was clearly disappointed with the manager’s decision and then threw a tantrum.

Colombia legend Faustino Asprilla, who had a spell in England at Newcastle United during his playing career, has issued a warning to the Aston Villa player. He sent a message to Durán via Blu Radio’s Blog Deportivo and his quotes are relayed by Noticias Caracol.

According to Asprilla, his compatriot’s reaction will cause damage to Aston Villa.

“It’s normal for anyone who plays football to get angry when they are substituted, but what’s not normal is the tantrum he is throwing,” he said.

“He should be calmer, he scores the goal and then all of a sudden, he has this reaction. It’s a very bad thing for the team, for his teammates. He has to understand that there are many more players with the desire to play and who couldn’t do it.”

The 54-year-old states his compatriot can’t repeat what he did against Bologna with both his club and country.

“The coach has to talk to him, say that it can’t happen again, that this doesn’t happen again, neither there at the club, nor in the national team,” Asprilla explained.

“In Europe it’s the coaches who are in charge of transfers, they are the people who have the decision to choose whether you go or not. If they see him having these tantrums, he’s going to have a lot of difficulty if they want him later on.”

The former Newcastle man insists Durán needs to work on his behaviour, in order to stop himself from possibly harming his career. He has also urged Aston Villa’s players to guide the South American to the right path.

“I gave example of [Alfredo] Morelos, the one who came to Nacional, who did everything he did in Scotland, but in the end had a behaviour that affected him,” he added.

“Durán is very young, he has to learn, that someone at home speaks to him, that you do not do those things, that in the future can harm him.

“I think his Aston Villa’s teammates have to talk to him, pull his ears, it’s something that can’t happen again, you can’t let that happen. Suddenly, the coach is not going to put him in the next few games.”
