On summer transfer deadline day, Paris Saint-Germain allowed Carlos Soler to join West Ham United on a loan deal.
The midfielder has made four substitute appearances in the league and started in West Ham’s EFL Cup defeat to Liverpool.
West Ham have two wins from eight Premier League games, leaving them in 15th. Marca had a chat with the 27-year-old and asked him whether the Hammers can qualify for Europe.
When responding to that, the Spain international mentioned he’s unsure of where his future lies beyond this season. His immediate focus is enjoying regular minutes at West Ham.
“We haven’t talked about objectives. It’s a very new and long-term project. It’s a bit abstract because in football you have to think a lot about the present, get results and play well,” he said.
“But we have a lot of new players, a new coach, a new philosophy… Few clubs manage to get it right from the start.
Soler is a product of Valencia’s youth system, where he spent six years with the La Liga side’s first team and move to PSG in 2022. His deal with the Paris club lasts until 2027.
The West Ham summer signing was specifically asked if he’s open to returning to Valencia in the future.
Responding to that, Soler explained: “I’ll never close the door because I consider myself Valencian and Valencianista. I love Valencia and I usually spend my days off here.
“You never know the twists and turns that football can take. But of course, at some point I would like to return. Now I’m focused on West Ham and then… I have a contract with PSG.”
Marca also asked Soler whether he could return to PSG after his loan spell at West Ham.
“I’ve just arrived in London and I’m looking forward to growing here this season. I feel very good physically and mentally. I’m at a very good point in my life and I hope to have a great year,” he added.
“Obviously, I still belong to PSG. I have two years left on my contract and we’ll see when the season is over. My idea is to be happy here this season and enjoy the Premier League.”
