Raúl Jiménez has impressed for Fulham this season, managing four goals and an assist from nine matches.

The striker also impressed for Mexico by scoring a goal and registering an assist in their 2-0 friendly win over the United States earlier this week.

Former Mexico striker Jared Borgetti is pleased to see the player impressing for Fulham and the national team. He heaped praise on the 33-year-old during a chat with TUDN, relayed by Águilas Monumental.

Jiménez suffered a skull fracture in November 2020, while at Wolverhampton Wanderers. He struggled with injuries for the next two years and his form dropped, which cost him a place in the national team.

That didn’t stop Fulham from signing him in July 2023. The Mexico international scored seven goals in all competitions last season and has starred to impress for Marco Silva’s side this season.

Jiménez’s performances for Fulham helped him return to the Mexico squad this month, for the first time since November 2023. Borgetti is delighted the frontman’s injury concerns are now behind him.

“I like him because little by little he’s putting that injury aside and I think it was important to have continuity, so that he could forget about that situation, and on the pitch he could concentrate on doing his best,” he said.

Borgetti, who represented Mexico between 1997 and 2008, says it’s normal his compatriot ‘took time to get back to his best’. He’s urged Mexico manager Javier Aguirre to take advantage of Jiménez’s form for El Tri.

“The other thing was a question of rhythm: you’re going to make mistakes, it’s logical, because of the time you stopped playing,” Borgetti explained.

“He’s a player who is an example, and it would be good for the national team and Javier to have him at his best level because he could compete with anyone for that position.”
