Brighton & Hove Albion were determined to sign PSV Eindhoven’s Olivier Boscagli, after making a €10m bid in the summer window. The Eredivisie side had rejected the Seagulls’ proposal and decided not to let him leave.
Last month, PSV commercial director Frans Janssen stated that Brighton’s bid wasn’t even close to their desired figure.
The centre-back was not at all pleased with the Dutch club’s decision to block his transfer to Brighton.
Voetbal International journalist Marco Timmer, who covers PSV, has been talking about the player’s situation. His comments are relayed by PSV Fans.
The Frenchman has less than a year left on his deal and has made a decision to leave the Eindhoven club as a free agent.
“The 26-year-old is professional, has resigned himself to his situation and is currently aiming for a transfer-free status at the end of this season.”
This can allow Fabian Hürzeler’s side to sign him on a free transfer next summer. They could possibly face competition from other clubs, considering the player will be a good market opportunity at the end of this season.
The defender seems to have put the Brighton disappointment behind him. He played 10 matches this season and is focusing on performing well for PSV. The journalist has hailed his recent performances for the Dutch champions.
“Boscagli can’t do himself a greater favour than to play football very well. That’s what the Monegasque (he’s from Monaco) does. In fact, Boscagli had an excellent last season, but he is now perhaps having his best year at PSV,” Timmer explained.
“As a defence leader, he is an indispensable part of the team and Boscagli is also more present in attack this season than before. In addition, the central defender makes the most passes in the final third of the field.”
