Rangers signed Neraysho Kasanwirjo from Feyenoord on transfer deadline day, with him arriving on loan. Philippe Clement has handed him five appearances, clocking in 150 minutes in the process.

The defender was on loan at Rapid Wien last season. He made two appearances for Feyenoord this season before joining Rangers.

According to 1908.nl, the 22-year-old’s decision to go out on loan to Rangers ‘came as a surprise’.

Philippe Clement has James Tavernier as the first choice right-back and Kasanwirjo has to compete with him for a place at Rangers.

The Dutchman has been speaking to Voetbal International and his comments are relayed by 1908.nl. He’s now explained why joining Rangers was a ‘logical choice’.

“So far I can’t complain. Rangers is a historic club. I have a good relationship with the coach and the team has taken me in well,” he said.

“I want to get as many minutes as possible and knock myself into the starting line-up. We play a lot of games, so I will get those minutes.

“The stories about it being tough and physically challenging are true. In Scotland, you just have to become a man. You are a little boy, but you have to become a man. I’m working on that now and it will be fine.”

Rangers have an option to make the Feyenoord owned player’s stay permanent at the end of this season.

His contract at the Eredivisie side lasts until 2027. When asked if he intends to return to Feyenoord next season, Kasanwirjo explained: “I’ll just do my best, keep working hard and want to play as much as possible. Then we will automatically see where it leads. Continuing at Feyenoord? Who knows. I’m keeping all options open.”

Feyenoord Pings have also relayed additional quotes from the Rangers player’s interview with Voetbal International where he has heaped praise on Philippe Clement.

“I always want to play more, but I have good conversations with the trainer, and I understand his choices,” he added.

“He talks to me a lot and we understand each other. I just do my best, train hard and when I get in, I have to give it my all. This trainer is very direct and tells it like it is. I need that. He is very clear in communication and knows exactly how to deal with different types of players. I think that is important as a trainer.”
