Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga remains confident of enjoying more game time at the club this season.

The winger has made eight appearances in all competitions for the Reds, which includes four substitute appearances.

Sweden will take on Estonia later today. Ahead of this tie, Fotbollskanalen had a chat with Elanga and pointed out to him that he was a substitute in Nottingham Forest’s last two Premier League games.

Responding to that, he said: “The season is long so I’m not worried. I know I will get to play.”

The 22-year-old has clocked in 679 minutes from 19 games for the national team. He has been mainly used as a substitute in competitive fixtures and the situation hasn’t changed after Jon Dahl Tomasson took charge in February.

“I always want to play but it’s Jon who chooses and I’m just happy that we didn’t lose the game [2-2 draw against Slovakia]. Now we have an important match against Estonia. So hopefully we will win. I’m not worried. We have a lot of good players. I’m only happy if we win,” Elanga explained.

Jon Dahl Tomasson has included the former Manchester United man in his squad for every international break since taking over the Sweden job.

The Nottingham Forest attacker has insisted he wants to play for Sweden even if it means operating as a wingback.

Elanga hasn’t held talks with the national team manager on how to get more game time. He also explained it’s hard for him at times to read the Dane.

“No. We haven’t talked. Listen, we have won the last two games before Slovakia, we didn’t lose against Slovakia and now we have an important game against Estonia. Jon can put a team in training and then change when we have a meeting. You never know with him. He is tricky,” he added.
