Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli came off the bench in Brazil’s 2-1 win over Chile in World Cup qualifiers last week.
Brazil will face Peru this midweek and the 23-year-old’s involvement remains uncertain.
According to ESPN in Brazil, the Arsenal player was struggling with discomfort in his calf. This forced him to cut short Sunday’s training session with the national team.
It’s claimed Martinelli visited a private clinic in Brasília, to undergo tests. The Brazilian football association have confirmed that the results have shown the forward has a “muscle edema”.
UOL have also reported about the concern over the Arsenal attacker’s fitness. They add he remains doubtful for the clash against Peru on Wednesday [UK time].
There should be more clarity in the coming hours if the attacker can be fit for next clash. His current situation would be a concern for Brazil and the Premier League side.
Martinelli has scored two goals and registered two assists from 10 games for the Gunners this season.
The north London club will take on AFC Bournemouth in the league on October 19th. Mikel Arteta and Arsenal will be hoping the South American can be available for the weekend’s clash.
