Manchester United have a number of players who face uncertain futures given their contracts expire at the end of the current season.

Victor Lindelöf is one of those players, and as it stands the expectation is he’ll be leaving Old Trafford as a free agent next summer.

The defender could probably have found a new home during the last window, with multiple clubs thought to be interested and Manchester United likely open to a sale.

However, he was injured for much of the summer and his first appearance of the season came in the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa.

Sweden face Slovakia this evening, in an away match as part of the current round of UEFA Nations League games.

Lindelöf was wheeled out at the national team press conference, and said he’s happy to have got a half against Aston Villa.

Aftonbladet quote the defender as saying: “It’s nice to be back. The body is fine and I have been riding hard during the rehabilitation. So it was nice to get 45 minutes at the end. It’s always nice to get some match time before the national team.”

On whether he’s ready to start the match for Sweden and play the full 90 minutes, the Manchester United player said: “We’ll see. I’m ready to play if Jon (national manager – Jon Dahl Tomasson) chooses me. Slovakia is the toughest match on paper and we hope to win. We have done good things defensively in the past, although in the first game it was a bit too easy for the opponents.”

Victor Lindelöf will be aware that with minutes for the Red Devils likely to be limited in the coming months, Sweden matches could provide something of a showcase to potential new clubs.
