Elia Caprile is having something of a breakthrough season, and he credits Leeds United with some of the credit for his success.

The 23-year-old has played in all of Napoli’s last four games, and only conceded one goal in the process. There’s talk of him now being the senior goalkeeper and helping Napoli to win the Serie A title this season.

It’s all a long way since his experience with Leeds United between 2020 and 2022. Caprile failed to make an appearance for the Yorkshire side, but whenever given the chance he’s made it clear he values the time he spent in English football.

That was far from being an easy time, with the period hit by the peak of the Covid pandemic.

On his time time at Elland Road, Corriere dello Sport quote Caprile as saying: “What did the experience at Leeds leave me? It trained me on a sporting and personal level, a new nation learning the language and going through the pandemic alone, all of this helped me. Every coach left me something, improved me on a technical and personal level.”

There’s been talk of a call up to the Italy national team, although competition to get a starting spot there will be very tough indeed. PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario and Juventus’ Michele Di Gregorio are ahead of him, but it will certainly look more possible if he helps Napoli to the Scudetto.
