Algemeen Dagblad journalist Geert Langendorff has accused Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford of trying to get sent off against Aston Villa last weekend.
Speaking to AD Voetbalpodcast, relayed by Soccer News, the Dutch newspaper’s English correspondent claims the forward is a ‘rotten apple’ in Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Manchester United have made their worst start to the league for over three decades. They have eight points after seven games, scoring five goals in the league this season.
The Red Devils have also failed to win their two Europa League matches, and the English media have stated Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.
“And anyone who saw him on Sunday against Aston Villa. He was ostentatiously applying for a red card. Fortunately, Ten Hag was able to intervene just in time and get him off.
“Mourinho never mentioned names. But he did say there were one or two more rotten apples who made the job impossible for him. Anthony Martial was one of them, who has since left. The fact that Mourinho said there is one more sitting there. That can only be one and that is Rashford.”
Langendorff, in true Dutch style, is giving an outlandish opinion and presenting it as fact. Ten Hag knew how important his last two matches were and he started Rashford in both, suggesting he feels he can rely on the player.
The manager took charge at Manchester United in the summer of 2022. Rashford starred in the Dutchman’s first season, scoring 30 goals and registering 11 assists.
