Aston Villa’s Matty Cash was disappointed to be left out of the Poland squad for Euro 2024.
The 27-year-old revealed this during a chat with Kanał Sportowy and his comments are relayed by Piłka Nożna.
A calf injury forced Cash to miss last two league matches for Aston Villa towards the end of last season. The right-back has now said he was fit to make it to Michał Probierz’s squad for the Euro 2024.
The Aston Villa man, who has made 15 appearances for Poland, found out about his omission through the Polish media.
“Everything was fine. I had a small calf injury, but I worked hard off camera. I had two games left, but I was ready to play,” he said.
“How did I find out that I was not going to Euros? From the Polish press. The day before, I woke up in the morning and looked at my phone. I had a lot of notifications on Twitter: ‘Matty Cash is not going to EURO’. I thought it was a bit strange. The next day the line-up was announced, and I wasn’t in it, and I didn’t hear anything else.”
WP SportoweFakty have relayed additional quotes from the Aston Villa player on missing out of the Euro 2024, where Poland were knocked out at the group stage.
The fullback is convinced he could have had a positive impact at the tournament.
“Last summer was probably my toughest summer since I’ve been playing football,” Cash explained.
“The disappointment of not going to Euros was something very difficult for me. Watching the games on TV… I really wanted to be there. I feel I could have an impact on the team and I think I’ve already shown that in the past.”
