Making your season debut in October isn’t exactly the ideal start to the campaign, but for Clement Lenglet it’s not that much later than last year when he first appeared for Aston Villa in September.
The Barcelona owned defender spent the campaign with Unai Emery’s side, having been with Tottenham Hotspur the year before. Neither Premier League club went through with trying to make the loans permanent, which was partly because Lenglet deferred some of his Barcelona wages during the peak of the Coviud pandemic and his contract situation has been very complicated since.
The Frenchman is again on loan from Barcelona, and is predicted to be involved against Real Sociedad on Sunday, with Diego Simeone having a number of problems in defence.
Lenglet will likely prove a useful player for Atletico, just like he did during his loans at Tottenham and Aston Villa.
