Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Sasa Kalajdzic has opened up on his ‘bitter’ injury and when he hopes to come back.

The Austrian forward has been speaking to Sky, relayed by Heute, about his latest injury absence and the hard road back to action.

Kalajdzic’s career has been wrecked by injuries to date, with three cruciate ligament tears already suffered by the 27-year-old.

He first suffered the first of those in July 2019 when with Stuttgart, an injury that saw him miss 34 games for club and country and spend 363 days on the treatment table.

He returned from that but then suffered a shoulder injury in August 2021 that saw him miss another 24 games for Stuttgart and Austria.

There had been hope he could bounce back from those problems at Wolves but suffered his second cruciate ligament tear just 45 minutes into his career with the club in September 2022, spending 43 games and 274 days out of action.

This year was supposed to see his big return, but disaster struck again as he suffered the third cruciate ligament tear of his career, which has currently seen him spend 228 days on the treatment table.

Kalajdzic admits that was a particularly ‘bitter’ blow but hopes he can be back sooner rather than later for Wolves.

“I may have wanted to put a positive spin on it at the time, but I knew it would be something more serious. It was very similar to the second injury back then. I felt something strange in my knee. It’s just bitter, but it happened,” he said.

“I’m on a very good path and will soon be at the end. I would say that I’m already in the last third. It depends on whether everything continues to run smoothly.

“I would like to be able to play another game this year, or one or two games. But I’m not putting any pressure on myself. There’s no pressure from the club either.”
