Manchester City man ready to push for exit – Senses opportunity is there

Stefan Ortega is ready to push for a move away from Manchester City, believing his chance may pass him by if he doesn’t.

That’s according to SportBILD, who report that Ortega has made a decision on his future and will push for a move if he doesn’t end up as number one.

The newspaper explains that two and a half years ago signing for Manchester City, Ortega no longer wants to be the number two behind Ederson.

His ambitions have grown since he first arrived, particularly after Pep Guardiola made it clear this summer that if Ederson left that Ortega would be handed the number one shirt.

That idea was fully fleshed out by Manchester City too, with them targeting Werder Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer as their number two. He even had an exit clause that only applied to City to make it happen.

A deal taking Ederson to Saudi Arabia didn’t happen but Ortega’s wish to step up to number one remains.

He is willing to wait but not for long, particularly as he feels his chance may be there with Germany given Manuel Neuer has retired and Marc-André ter Stegen is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Ortega ‘senses a great chance’ for the national team but will need to be playing regularly if that is to happen.

He wants to receive a clear signa from Manchester City in the coming months that he will be number one next season. If not, he wants to move. Indeed, if there was an offer in January rom a top-class club he could even move at that point.

There is a verbal contract in place with Manchester City that he can leave if a good offer is made for him, despite his contract running until 2026.
