Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has left Newcastle United star Alexander Isak out of the squad for October’s international break.
On Monday, Sportbladet stated there was a question mark over the striker’s availability for the two matches against Slovakia and Estonia.
Isak is struggling with a broken toe that forced him to miss Newcastle’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City last weekend and the EFL Cup win over AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday.
Earlier today, Jon Dahl Tomasson announced his squad for the upcoming two matches and the 25-year-old was left out.
“One of the best strikers in the world is missing. He’s really disappointed not to be able to contribute and help the team, but he is not ready to perform due to injury and I am sure he will come back in November and help us,” he said.
The Newcastle frontman scored a brace in Sweden’s 3-1 win over Azerbaijan and a goal in their 3-0 win over Estonia in September. Sporting star Viktor Gyökeres will be leading the national team’s attack this month.
Isak has a goal and an assist from six matches for Eddie Howe’s side this season.
