With Erik ten Hag apparently having two games left to save his Manchester United job, and then presumably going through the same process soon if he manages to survive this time, there’s hats being thrown into the ring around world football.
As we’ve covered recently, any sniff of blood at Old Trafford leads the Italian media into something of a frenzy. It feels like the country’s media have long wanted an Italian manager in charge at Manchester United and have long been willing it into existence.
Simone Inzaghi has recently been linked, and when covering those claims we explained that Max Allegri, currently a free agent, has been linked with the Premier League club since Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge.
Well, right on cue, is Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport and their senior journalist Carlo Laudisa.
According to Laudisa: ‘Behind the scenes the Red Devils’ directors are scanning the market to evaluate a weighty solution. In this perspective, the candidacy of Max Allegri is taking shape , free after the termination of his contract with Juventus. His most fearsome competitor is the German Thomas Tuchel, formerly of Bayern Munich, but also in the past at Chelsea.
‘And if for the former Borussia Dortmund obviously the experience already gained in the Premier is valid, the coach from Livorno has an exceptional sponsor on his side: Sir Alex Ferguson, the great sage of the United world. Always an admirer of our football, in his idea of change there is the name of Allegri, identified as a manager like Ancelotti.’
The Ferguson claims feel a little presumptuous, and as we’ve mention before, any time there’s been a sniff of the Manchester United job being available, it feels like Allegri’s camp have pushed his name forward,
Whether it will work this time or not remains to be seen.
