On Thursday, we covered claims from Austria that Leeds United’s Maximilian Wöber is set to miss out on October’s international break. It was also stated the 26-year-old could undergo knee surgery.
The centre-back last made an appearance in Austria’s 1-1 draw against Slovenia last month. He’s been sidelined since then and Daniel Farke confirmed on Monday that he’s “set for surgery”.
Later that day, Austria manager Ralf Rangnick announced his squad for the two matches against Kazakhstan and Norway this month. The Leeds player has been left out of these fixtures.
“A cyst has formed directly on the meniscus, and they will probably remove it,” he said.
The national team manager has suggested Wöber tried to recover without surgery, but this was of no use. Therefore, the player has decided to go under the knife.
“Last week they tried it conventionally again. But he immediately felt pain again and he’s now decided to have this operation,” Rangnick explained.
According to Laola1, the Austria international’s operation will take place in Innsbruck on Tuesday. They state it’s unclear whether he’ll be fit for November’s international break.
Wöber has made one appearance for the Whites this season and that came in their EFL Cup defeat to Middlesbrough.
