Liverpool have enjoyed a good start under Arne Slot’s orders this season. The Reds have lost only once so far, and it was against Nottingham Forest in the league.

The Merseyside club are second in the table, a point behind leaders Manchester City. Slot has secured the first Champions League win with Liverpool, against AC Milan last week.

He arrived at Liverpool in the summer, after Jürgen Klopp stepped down from his post at Anfield at the end of last season.

The Dutchman spent three years at Feyenoord prior to joining the Premier League side. At the Eredivisie side, he won the title and the KNVB Cup over the past two seasons.

Journalist Valentijn Driessen discussed Feyenoord’s 4-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on De Telegraaf’s podcast, Kick-Off. His quotes are relayed by Soccer News.

When analysing Feyenoord’s loss at home, the pundit compared their record under Slot last season. They lost four of the six group stage Champions League matches. Feyenoord were demoted to the Europa League and AS Roma knocked them out in the last 32.

“That good season… internationally it was not such a good year for Feyenoord,” he said.

“That canonisation of Arne Slot, that bothers me a bit too. If you look at the figures, last season in the Champions League they simply lost twice to Atlético Madrid, who were No.3 of Spain.

“Then Lazio, they won at home. But they lost away to Lazio and also at Celtic. Then you go on to the Europa League and you are eliminated by AS Roma, against whom you have already lost a [Conference League] final.

“What now, a great European season under Arne Slot? Last season it wasn’t much either.”
