Dennis Praet has told De Morgen that he wants to put his disappointing spell at Leicester City behind him.
The Foxes released the midfielder after his contract with them expired on June 30th. He had to wait until September 6th to find a new club, when Royal Antwerp signed him on a free transfer.
Leicester took the 30-year-old from Sampdoria in 2019, and he didn’t feature regularly in his first two seasons at the King Power.
The Premier League side allowed him to spend the 2021/22 season on loan at Torino. His situation at Leicester had worsened in the last two seasons, clocking in less than 1,900 minutes from 47 matches in the process.
De Morgen reports it was ‘difficult’ for the Belgium international over the ‘past two years’ at the English club. The player has admitted his situation wasn’t ideal but insists some are going over the top.
“Relaunch my career? I think that’s putting it too strongly. But it’s true: I didn’t play enough at Leicester. I never had a starting spot for a longer period there. The competition was fierce. Now I’m really eager to be back on the pitch every week,” he said.
A move to Royal Antwerp has seen the former Leicester man return to his homeland after eight years.
On his experience of playing in Italy and England, Praet explained: “I have also become more mature on the pitch. A different Dennis sits here than eight years ago.
“In top competitions such as Serie A and the Premier League, you automatically take steps forward. And you have to. Tactically, and also in terms of intensity.”
