Aston Villa youngster Lamara Bogarde is proof that moving to England at a young age can work out and is not always a disaster.

That’s according to Marciano Vink, who has praised the Aston Villa youngster today in comments relayed by Voetbal Primeur.

20-year-old Bogarde finds himself as a part of the Aston Villa squad this season after seemingly impressing Unai Emery during pre-season.

He’s already been handed his debuts in the Premier League and Champions League, putting in an assured display in the 3-0 win over Young Boys this week after equally impressive performances in wins over Leicester and Everton.

He very much appears to be one to keep an eye on for the future and is showing rapid development under Emery’s leadership so far.

The youngster has been with the Villans since moving from Feyenoord’s U17’s in September 2020, initially joining the U18s before moving up to the U21s and U23s with a loan spell at Bristol Rovers in between.

For him, the decision to move from the Netherlands at a young age seems to have been the right one and Vink believes that deserves praise.

“Of course, he went to England at the age of seventeen,” he said.

“We often have the discussion about whether players don’t go abroad too early. Every player has the situation of whether he stays with a club or leaves.

“For him, England was a very good option, and he did that. So, it is possible that you can succeed there, You see that the training in England is really very good.

“Nathan Aké, Bogarde now, Ian Maatsen, Jeffrey Bruma, those are the guys who made it. Bogarde is really mature, I saw him last weekend.

“You have to be really good for a coach in England to put an international on the bench for you, so I think it’s really great that this guy is holding his own in the violence of the Premier League.”
