Aston Villa began their Champions League journey yesterday with a convincing 3-0 win over Swiss side Young Boys.

Despite Unai Emery’s side being clear winners, the Swiss media have taken aim at them today.

20 Minuten report on the game, stating Aston Villa were poor winners, and they question the behaviour of the club’s players during the clash at the Wankdorf Stadium.

They state that striker Jhon Duran ran straight at the Young Boys’ fan curve in the second half and he celebrated in a way that hasn’t been seen positively by the outlet. They also mention that Amadou Onana celebrated his goal in a ‘malicious’ manner.

20 Minuten, as major Swiss newspaper, carry quotes from journalist Marcel Reif, who also seemed offended by the behaviour of the Villa players.

“That is unsportsmanlike, nothing more and nothing less. I think that kind of behaviour is weak. But it also shows how confident they are.”

20 Minuten go on to state that Emery wasn’t aware of how his players had behaved during the game, mentioning that the Spaniard didn’t understand the frustration from Young Boys fans and local media after the defeat.

Of course, Aston Villa won’t care. The crucial aspect for them was getting the three points… and if a few players got a little overexcited then so be it.
