Borussia Dortmund director of football Sebastien Kehl has insisted they treated Niclas Füllkrug well this summer when selling him to West Ham United.
SportBILD cover comments from Kehl today, who has hit back at the West Ham summer signing after his recent spate of comments about his former employers.
Füllkrug was a surprise departure from Dortmund this summer after an impressive first year at the club in which he had shone in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
He was quickly sold to West Ham in a €27m deal despite that, with the German club happy to sell for a big profit after they had secured the signing of Serhou Guirassy from VfB Stuttgart.
He stated that he had seen the signing of the striker as a lack of confidence from Dortmund, hence his willingness to move to West Ham.
Reports in Germany had stated that Dortmund were left surprised by Füllkrug’s comments and now Kehl has publicly responded to them with his own version of events.
“I naturally spoke to Fülle before the Guirassy deal and also told him that we would do something in this position and showed him, just like the coach, the perspective,” SportBILD report him saying on Sky90 the football debate.
“He then started to think. He would have been in a competitive situation that he himself did not want to take on.
“He will get a slightly longer-term contract (from West Ham) and perhaps a slightly better perspective in one or two places. He has always behaved correctly, and I think we have too. Nothing sticks.”
