Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez was a part of Argentina’s Copa América winning squad in the summer. The goalkeeper was instrumental in the shootout against Colombia in the final.
On Tuesday, La Albiceleste were unable to seal a victory over Colombia in the World Cup qualifiers. The tie in Barranquilla ended in 2-1 in favour of the hosts.
The Aston Villa player didn’t take the defeat well. When the players were greeting each other on the pitch, a cameraman tracked the 32-year-old to get his reaction. Martínez attacked the camera and Olé blame it on the operative.
Noticias RCN were able to track the cameraman, Jhonny Jackson, and got a reaction from him.
Jackson insists he was doing his job. He didn’t hold back when being critical of the Aston Villa star about the latest incident.
“At the final whistle, as a cameraman and steady operator, I always go looking for reactions because the director starts telling me over the intercom. I simply enter the field, after 90 minutes everyone is tired, and I look for reactions.
“I see Dibu greeting two substitute goalkeepers and I go up to him and out of nowhere he slaps me. It made me angry, it made me very angry. I’m working, just like he’s working, tackling.”
“I wasn’t even playing football with him, it made me very angry but I didn’t say anything at the time. I wanted to tell you to take it easy, brother. In life, everyone has lost a game, for you it suddenly meant a lot that defeat…”
Unai Emery and Aston Villa won’t be bothered by the stopper’s reaction. The Villans will take on Everton in the league tie on Saturday, and they’ll just hope their goalkeeper has his head straight for that.
