Maximilian Wöber has had an interesting few weeks at Leeds.

The defender is yet to play once in the Championship this season and he is behind both Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon in the pecking order.

This came after Leeds United didn’t sell him to Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer window, as their asking price for the player was too high for the German side.

On Wednesday, Wöber spoke to the German media and insisted Leeds is the perfect place for him and he never pushed to leave, while also stating that he is willing to wait for his chance under Daniel Farke.

The 26-year-old has now come up with a suggestion that a calf injury could be the reason he’s not getting much action.

He told Kronen Zeitung: “Nothing major, but it should (needs to) heal properly this early in the season. I trained normally all last week, now it’s fine again.”

His return to fitness could see him play for Austria in the upcoming UEFA Nations League tie against Slovenia.

Wöber has some some concerns about the pitch that Austria will play Slovenia on, saying that it can be ‘dangerous’.

“The pitch opens up quite a bit, there are then proper furrows in it. That makes it a bit dangerous.”

Leeds United will have to hope the pitch doesn’t hinder Wöber’s ongoing return to fitness. However, perhaps those claims about not playing under Farke are more designed for an Austrian audience, to suggest managerial decision isn’t the only reason behind his lack of minutes.
