At the weekend, Het Belang van Limburg reported Anderlecht CEO Jesper Fredberg wants to make an attempt for Manchester United’s Christian Eriksen. The window in Belgium is open until Friday, which allows the Jupiler Pro League side to try and sign him.
Earlier on Monday, TransferWatch.nl said Ajax see it as an ideal opportunity to sign the 32-year-old. It was also stated they could make an approach before the window there closes later today.
Voetbal International got in touch with Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots for an update. He’s ruled out a transfer for the Manchester United player and his comments are relayed by Het Nieuwsblad.
The Denmark international has less than a year left on his deal. He has already received approaches from several leagues from Europe and across the globe. Schoots has revealed the midfielder has turned them down as he has no plans to leave Erik ten Hag’s side.
“There has already been interest from various sides in Christian, but he will stay at United. There were options in the Arab world, Turkey and MLS, but they were rejected in advance because Chris and his family wanted to stay in Western Europe,” he said.
“There has been informal contact with Anderlecht. Never more than that. Ajax enquired in January, but that was too early, and the question was not asked this summer. So that wasn’t an item. There was another Dutch club that contacted us, but that was not an option.
“It’s difficult when you play for basically one of the three biggest clubs in the world to go to a much smaller competition, especially without Champions League football. We can end those speculations. At least until the end of the calendar year, when they will flare up again.”
Eriksen has been limited to four minutes of action this season and that was against Liverpool on Sunday. Despite the current situation, the representative insists that his client will start to enjoy regular minutes as the season progresses.
“He’s confident that he’ll get enough playing minutes. Manchester United will play every three days in the coming months, so Eriksen will still be important for United,” Schoots explained.
