Over the last few seasons, many Manchester United exits have been blocked by long and valuable contracts being given out at Old Trafford.
Even though the Red Devils have made a fair amount of sales this summer, there are still some players who it’s difficult to sell due to their high wages. One of those players is Victor Lindelof.
Not long ago, Fiorentina were linked with the Swede but the move never materialised. Lazio were also mentioned as an interested club in recent days, though there’s nothing concrete there either.
One major reason they never made a formal approach was the wages Manchester United are paying Lindelof. In a loan deal, the potential wage share would have been difficult for Lazio to cover.
Fiorentina also faced a similar issue and they would have ideally wanted United to terminate Lindelof’s contract, and pay him compensation. That was the only way they could sign him this summer.
The 30-year-old’s current deal expires next summer.
