Everton and Lyon have reached an agreement over Neal Maupay, who now looks set to join the French side.
That’s according to journalist Santi Aouna, who reports that Everton and Lyon have reached an agreement on a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
He adds that Maupay has been offered a four-year contract by the French side, who he now appears close to joining.
Maupay had been expected to leave Everton this summer after returning from a loan spell at Brentford last season.
Marseille have shown late interest in him to cover for Faris Moumbagna, who has suffered a serious knee injury.
Marseille didn’t want to spend that after a busy summer of spending to strengthen Roberto de Zerbi’s squad and the deal appeared to be at an impasse.
However, Aouna now reports a deal has been struck for Maupay to head to Marseille on loan. They will then be obligated to buy him next summer.
He makes no mention of the fee involved, but it would not be surprising if it was close to the €8m Everton had been looking for. Fellow journalist Sébastien Denis adds that the striker is set to arrive in Marseille in the coming hours to finalise the move.
