Two days ago, Bild stated Borussia Mönchengladbach could buy Leeds United’s Maximilian Wöber, if they were to sell Manu Koné for around €20m.

Leeds allowed the centre-back to spend last season on loan at the German club and Gladbach are keen on bringing him back this summer.

The Championship side’s high demands have made a potential deal difficult so far.

A fresh report from Bild brings the latest on the Bundesliga side’s chances of securing the 26-year-old’s services.

The defender hasn’t featured in the Championship, while he has made an appearance in the EFL Cup this season.

Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has confirmed that his side are looking to sign a defender who can operate in multiple positions. Wöber fits the profile as he can also be used as a left-back.

Gladbach are ‘currently making another attack’ to sign the Austria international. The Whites’ request of €20m is too high for the German club even if they were to sell Koné. Therefore, it’s ‘conceivable’ for them to sign the Leeds player on another loan deal.

Bild say Daniel Farke’s side will ‘insist’ on including a mandatory purchase option. There’s no mention of a figure, but the report says the overall deal could still be ‘too expensive’.

The Bundesliga side have identified VfL Bochum’s Bernardo as an emergency target if a deal for Wöber doesn’t materialise.
