Werder Bremen’s Oliver Burke was on loan at Birmingham City last season, but it didn’t exactly go to plan.

The forward had a disastrous spell at Birmingham City as he failed to score a goal or register an assist from 1,096 minutes in 23 games.

The managerial changes didn’t help Burke last season, but there was a lot of criticism sent towards the player. He has already returned to Werder Bremen and his future there still needs to be resolved.

Tuesday’s edition of Bild explains the former Birmingham City man has been the main candidate to leave the German club this summer.

With less than a year left on his deal, this window would be the Bundesliga side’s last big chance to earn a decent fee from his sale. A surprise development could result in the Scot staying at Werder Bremen.

At this moment in time, Burke hasn’t managed to find a buyer. The report says he should hold talks with his employer over his future by Wednesday.

Bild further states the ex-Birmingham City man could even stay at Werder Bremen this season. This possibility has also been confirmed by their head of football, Peter Niemeyer.

“Oliver brings a lot of quality. We will get together soon to find out whether he can and wants to be a serious factor in our offensive game. But for that he also needs full focus on the matter,” he told Bild.

Burke’s failure to find a suitable buyer after a disappointing loan spell with Birmingham City could see him revive his Bundesliga career, which would be a surprise for everyone involved… not least Werder Bremen.
