On August 12th, Foot Mercato reported Aston Villa are pushing hard to sign Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida.

Three days later, ESPN NL stated Aston Villa are the best placed team to sign the right-back.

Voetbal International, relayed by Feyenoord Pings, back up Aston Villa’s desire to secure the 24-year-old’s services.

When discussing potential exits, the report says ‘it’s uncertain’ whether Geertruida will be at the Eredivisie side beyond this transfer window.

It’s claimed ‘there is still interest’ from Unai Emery’s side and RB Leipzig in the fullback, who can also operate in the heart of defence.

The Netherlands international has less than a year left on his deal and is ‘open to leaving’ before the window closes.

Feyenoord, on the other hand, would be keen to offer the defender a new contract. If he doesn’t leave in the next few days, the Eredivisie side will start renewal talks with Geertruida.

Matty Cash is the only recognised right-back at Villa Park. He suffered a hamstring injury in Aston Villa’s defeat to Arsenal and is expected to spend a month on the sidelines.

This could force the Premier League side to sign a new right-back and Geertruida could be an option for them.
