Losing to Huddersfield on penalties in the Championship playoff, Reading could maybe feel hard done by missing out on Premier League football, and while the whole of Huddersfield is celebrating, there’s still some good news for their fans.
Leading the club to an impressive third in his first season at the club, Jaap Stam has made a name for himself this season, attracting some interest from other clubs.
Speaking to Telegraaf in Holland, he said: “A Stam departure? I’m not afraid. It’s logical that there will be interest when a small club does well. I’ve always said Jaap has the potential to become a very good manager. I’m glad he’s with us.”
As for his future, Tevreden also wants to see his job at the Madejski Stadium until the end, having turned down an offer to join Derby as a director of football.
He explained :”It was very serious, but not for me. I started something here. When I came here, I made a three-year plan. In our first year, we wanted to finish in the top ten, then top six, and then win the league. I’m proud to have finished third in our first season.”
With a record of 26 wins, seven wins and 13 losses in the Championship, Stam and Tevreden now have a great platform from which to launch themselves, and if they can consolidate their squad with more talent, they’ll have a very good chance of making the top two next year.
After all, the likes of Hull City and Sunderland don’t seem like they’ll be posing much of a threat, especially if they lose most of their current squad in the transfer market.
