On Friday, Record in Portugal reported Arsenal’s Fábio Vieira is on his way to FC Porto on a loan deal.
The 24-year-old graduated from the Dragons’ academy and made his way into their first team in 2020. Two years later, he was sold to the Premier League side.
Vieira hasn’t enjoyed regular game time at Arsenal. To put it in context, he clocked in 1,886 minutes from 49 games in the last two seasons.
He’s expected to return to Porto and Saturday’s edition of O Jogo provides the latest on this.
The attacking midfielder is excited about the possibility of returning to his former club. They haven’t yet reached an agreement with Arsenal, but the two clubs continue to hold talks.
The Portuguese’s salary is an obstacle for the Primeira Liga side. He earns €1.5m, after tax, per year at the Emirates and this is too high for Porto.
O Jogo state Porto want the Gunners to pay part of Vieira’s salary during his loan spell. In addition to this, the player will also take a pay cut as he wants this deal to go through.
Mikel Arteta has left the player out of his squad to face Aston Villa later today. Vieira is now waiting for the green light to return to Porto.
There’s confidence the deal will eventually go through. The report adds there won’t be an option or obligation to make the deal permanent.
