Wednesday is a nail-biting day for a lot of football fans as four clubs await the CAS decision regarding Atlético Madrid’s ban with great impatience.
The club in question obviously would like to know if they can sign players in the summer, while the start of Manchester United, Everton and Lyon’s transfer window could be off to a good start depending on the decision.
The Antoine Griezmann and Alexandre Lacazette deals are well known, and we’re going to focus on The Toffees’ part in all of this.
The Spanish side are also very keen on him, as repeated by AS today, and at €6m (his release clause), he’s a steal.
Everton are well aware of this, which is why they’re also interested, and if the ban is upheld, meaning Atlético have to wait until January to register players, this could play in their favour.
If this happens, the entire decision rests on Sandro.
Either he still decides to join Atlético and waits until January before he can play for them, or he signs somewhere else, which could be Goodison Park.
Cadena SER on Wednesday morning, however, reported that if the ban was upheld, Atlético Madrid would not be doing what Barcelona did, which is let their new signings play for the reserves for six months.
Instead, they would buy the players and let them play for their current club until January, at which point the transfer would go through.
This could very much please Sandro, who would get first team football at Malaga, and then get his move to Atlético Madrid.
The decision from CAS has to be made on the 31st of May, so we’ll find out very soon what happens.
There is, however, a shred of hope for Everton, but it’s small.
