Sevilla have agreed to pay all of Valentín Barco’s wages to ensure they can get him on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion this season.
That’s according to ABC Sevilla, who report that director of football Victor Orta has made the defender a priority signing.
The newspaper reports that Sevilla had initially hoped to sign Barco on loan with an option to buy. They believe Barco fits the profile of player they’re looking for perfectly and wanted an option to have him long term.
They have therefore agreed to finalise a loan deal for him, albeit for this season only. Sevilla have agreed to pay almost all of his wages to convince Brighton to loan Barco out.
The Spanish side have targeted Barco to replace Marcos Acuña, who has left to return to Argentina. They believe the Brighton man is the best of the candidates who have been offered to them.
A deal has now been closed between the two sides and reports yesterday indicated Brighton has closed personal terms with the Spanish side as well, so it is just a matter of time before the loan is finalised.
