Atalanta have been trying to sign Celtic’s Matt O’Riley for weeks and it’s no secret that the Danish midfielder is seen as a potential replacement for Teun Koopmeiners.

The Dutchman has asked for a transfer and wasn’t part of their squad for the Super Cup final yesterday, and with the days counting down before the summer transfer window closes, Atalanta need a replacement.

If Gazzetta dello Sport are to be believed today, things aren’t easy, even if La Dea have an advantage for the Celtic man.

The challenge is still presented by Brighton, who are ‘willing to accommodate’ the Hoops’ request of around €29m.

Atalanta’s offer is at €27m and that includes bonuses. There is still a minor gap between them and Celtic, making Brighton a potential threat.

Having said that, Atalanta’s presence in the Champions League is said to have partially swung the Celtic player’s desire and therefore he wants La Dea over the Seagulls.
