On Tuesday, we covered claims from Belgium of Southampton making an offer for Royal Antwerp’s Mandela Keita, and that came around a week after similar was said about Leicester City.
It appeared the player was being pushed towards the Premier League and newly promoted clubs, so we suggested Ipswich Town may be next.
Well, Wednesday’s edition of Gazet van Antwerpen drags even more in, reporting: ‘Leeds, Blackburn, Norwich and Nottingham Forest, among others, have already shown interest in the Antwerp midfielder, even Manchester United followed him.’
A little check shows some of these claims go back more than a year. Leeds United were first linked when it looked like they may be able to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and it’s similar with the others.
Manchester United were merely said to be watching him in March, and at that time it was also claimed West Ham and multiple Championship clubs had made contact in January, without it appearing that anything concrete happened.
There’s clearly someone pushing the player into the transfer market and encouraging claims related to an increasing number of clubs.
