Leeds United have asked Villarreal if they can have Alfonso Pedraza again next season. Villarreal cut short Pedraza’s loan with second division Lugo towards the end of the January transfer window, all so they could loan him to Leeds.

It was worth it for Villarreal because Leeds agreed to a €10m redemption clause, which would have been activated by Premier League promotion, something which looked quite possible back then.

Last week we covered reports from Spain that Pedraza could be loaned out to another La Liga club, and AS report top flight sides are now taking an interest. Villarreal are particularly strong in Pedraza’s position, so moving to another La Liga club could be interesting for the player.

AS say that Leeds have made an approach for a further loan but, for reasons unexplained, it’s stated that Villarreal don’t ‘value’ this option.

No final decision will be taken yet, and there’s still the possibility of Pedraza staying with Villarreal and trying to get enough minutes to progress. It’s not over until it’s over, so Leeds United will likely retain their interest through the summer, unless Garry Monk finds an alternative.
