Sunday saw an interesting story appear in the French media: that Sunderland were interested in departing Bordeaux goalkeeper Cédric Carrasso.
The Ligue 1 club announced last week they would not be renewing the veteran’s contract beyond this season, with news he would be replaced by Rennes’ Benoit Costil emerging a few days later, meaning the 35-year-old is now due to be available on a free.
The news came from Téléfoot, and now Le10 Sport appear to also confirm the story, claiming they have been told about an approach from the soon-to-be Championship side for Carrasso.
Conceding 25 goals in 26 appearances this season, there is no doubt the 35-year-old still has a few good seasons of football left in him, and a move to England, a country he already knows from a brief spell at Crystal Palace in 2002, could be of interest to him at this stage in his career, especially if he is guaranteed a starting spot.
No news has emerged regarding his response yet, but our bet is that if he can find a landing spot in Ligue 1 instead, he will.
