Moussa Sissoko is back in the France squad. Didier Deschamps will use any excuse to pick his favoured player, and some Tottenham minutes from April onwards have done the trick.

Sissoko was picked for Deschamps’ latest squad before he started for Tottenham on Thursday night, in a 6-1 victory over Leicester City. L’Equipe say Mauricio Pochettino has wanted to give Sissoko some minutes towards the end of the season, and his appearance against Leicester shows that.

Whilst Deschamps clearly has faith in Sissoko, L’Equipe believe things are going to have to change before the World Cup. It’s becoming an issue for the national manager, and this week he refused to speak specifically about his reasons for calling Sissoko up despite the player’s situation at Tottenham.

L’Equipe say Sissoko’s relationship with Pochettino ‘borders on nothingness’ and the French newspaper believe the Tottenham manager wasn’t too keen on signing him in the first place.

A summer exit is seen as ‘almost inevitable’ but it may not be easy to find a club willing to give Sissoko the prominence he expects, match the wages he’s on, and pay a transfer fee Tottenham will find reasonable.
