On Monday, Marca reported Atlético Madrid are laying down the red carpet for Manchester City’s Julián Álvarez.

Los Rojiblancos have made progress in their negotiations with Manchester City to sign the 24-year-old.

That’s according to Argentina’s Olé, who say the Manchester City star will join the La Liga side in the ‘coming days’, if there are no last-minute surprises. The operation will be closed for €80m including bonuses.

The Argentina international has been pleased with his life in England, but is convinced to leave them as he’s behind Erling Haaland at the Etihad, and his parents and siblings have decided to move to Madrid. Álvarez has verbally agreed a five-year deal with Atlético.

Olé state the parties believe the transfer will go through after making ‘so much progress’ in the negotiations. There are ‘still some details’ missing for the operation to take shape, but the report makes no mention of these details.

Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has opened talks with Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano in the last few hours, to sort out the final details to close the deal. This was possible after Chelsea agreed a €45m deal to sign Los Rojiblancos’ Samu Omorodion.

Journalist César Luis Merlo claims the deal to take Álvarez to Atlético is in the ‘final stage’, after they made an offer of €75m plus €15m bonuses, which is €10m more than what was reported by Olé.

Atlético are optimistic of getting this deal over the line, and should it go through, Álvarez will sign a five-year deal with them.
