There’s a claim in the Turkish media, Newcastle United look set to make a move for Galatasaray attacker Baris Alper Yilmaz.

The Premier League club have been linked with the right winger in recent weeks following the 24-year-old’s performances at Euro 2024.

Fotospor reports Newcastle United sporting director Paul Mitchell travelled over to Turkey yesterday. It’s claimed he will watch the Turkish Super Cup clash between Istanbul rivals Galatasaray and Besiktas, with the intention of getting a further lowdown on Yilmaz.

The Turkish media outlet report Yilmaz has been on Mitchell’s radar since he was the sporting director at AS Monaco, and they say he also had travelled to Turkey in April to watch the attacker.

According to Fotospor, Newcastle United could make an offer for the Turkey international but are likely to face competition from Liverpool and Aston Villa for the €30m rated attacker.

Brighton, Arsenal, Manchester United, West Ham and Arsenal have also been linked with the forward. Some of the hype in Turkey has appeared over the top and it seems unlikely all those clubs are genuinely pushing for the move, so the €30m claim looks ambitious.

He started 28 Super Lig games last season, scoring seven goals. Yılmaz is contracted to Galatasaray until June 2027.
