Mike Penders potential move to Chelsea could inadvertently end up saving Belgian side Bregel Sport from financial ruin.
That’s according to Het Belang van Limburg, relayed by Voetbalkrant, who explain how the Belgian side could be saved thanks to training rights they’ll be owed on the player.
Penders appears to be on the verge of a move to Chelsea, who have moved quickly to secure his signature over the last week as they continue scooping up talents for the future.
The Belgian side will receive a nice financial boost from the deal but they’re not the only ones, with a struggling first-division team also set to benefit.
Things have been ‘going badly wrong’ at Bregel Sport in recent weeks with the manager resigning, the players rebelling, and two pre-season games already forfeited.
That’s a by-product of financial troubles ruining the club but Penders’ transfer to Chelsea ‘could save the club’ as they’d receive a training fee from the player.
The figure isn’t clear at this point, but it would be sufficient to ‘turn the tide at the club’ and get them back on the right track.
