Cardiff City are close to completing a move for Anwar El Ghazi this summer, according to De Telegraaf.
The 29-year-old has been without a club for more than eight months, after 1. FSV Mainz 05 terminated his contract.
El Ghazi recently won a legal battle against the German club for wrongful termination and will soon return to the pitch with Cardiff City.
The Dutchman has been relying on the FIFA rule which states a player can be a free agent if he has not received a salary for more than three months.
The report says the forward initially warned the Bundesliga side, before informing them via his lawyers that he’ll terminate his contract at 1. FSV Mainz 05. This has allowed him to negotiate with Cardiff City as a free agent.
It’s claimed El Ghazi has reached an agreement with Cardiff City for a one-year deal. The report further adds the forward is undergoing a medical with the Welsh club on Wednesday and the deal will be made official soon.
The move to Cardiff City will see El Ghazi return to the UK where he previously had spells with Aston Villa and Everton.
