Talks to sign Liverpool player won’t happen until next week – Pause on transfer efforts

PSV Eindhoven will not renew talks with Liverpool for defender Sepp van den Berg until next week at the earliest.

That’s according to journalist Rik Elfrink, who reports that the Dutch club are not set to renew their efforts to sign the defender for the time being.

PSV have been linked with a move for the centre-back for weeks, with it claimed that he was considering a permanent exit from Liverpool this summer in search of regular first-team football after a successful loan spell at Mainz last year.

Its been made clear that Liverpool wanted to take their time before making a decision, with new manager Arne Slot keen to assess all of his options in pre-season before making any decisions.

That was followed by a report that the Dutch coach had been charmed by his compatriot so far, suggesting that he may not be all that keen on selling him to PSV or anyone else this summer after all.

Elfrink now follows that up and explains PSV aren’t pushing for the time being, explaining that talks with Liverpool ‘will not be topical again’ until next week at the earliest.

The plan at Anfield is for the defender to first complete their pre-season tour in the United States before making any decisions on the defender, or indeed anyone else.

That tallies with other reports from the Netherlands that PSV were expecting a deal to happen later in the window, meaning you should expect to see more on Van den Berg for weeks to come.
