Rostov winger Pontus Almqvist is free to leave the club on loan this summer and both Brentford and Southampton have shown an interest in him.
That’s according to Aftonbladet, who report that the Premier League duo are among several clubs eyeing up a potential move.
The newspaper reports that Almqvist is free to leave Rostov again this summer after returning from a loan spell with Lecce.
That move to Italy was one of several such loan deals away from Rostov in recent years, with spells at Pogon Szczecin, and FC Utrecht also.
An Italian trio of Fiorentina, Palma and Roma have all expressed an interest in him, but Brentford and Southampton are also ‘considering the Swede’ as a potential option this summer.
Lecce have also shown they would be willing to have him back and Sevilla are on the fringes too, with Almqvist currently waiting to make a decision as he wants to consider his options.
His availability on loan comes from FIFA’s decision to grant foreign players in Russia the ability to leave on loan, meaning he’s available for a temporary deal despite his contract being due to expire in a year’s time.
That provides Brentford and Southampton their chance to get their man and it seems they’ve put themselves in the mix.
