FC Twente have moved on from their efforts to sign Wout Weghorst and are now focused on Rangers’ Sam Lammers.

That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say that the Dutch side have followed FC Utrecht and NEC Nijmegen in trying to get the striker out of Ibrox this summer.

The newspaper reports that Lammers has been deemed ‘surplus to requirements’ by Philippe Clement at Rangers and so is free to leave Ibrox in the coming weeks.

He currently earns €1.5m a year at Rangers, a figure that puts a heavy burden on the budget at Ibrox and so they are keen to move him on, particularly as that contract still has three years left to run.

Twente are looking for a new striker and have now turned their interest to the Rangers man after previously targeting Wout Weghorst.

His performances at Euro 2024 have made a move for him unfeasible, though, and so now Lammers is seen as the more likely target. Or, at least, the more attainable.

It seems they’re now pushing ahead to try and get a deal done, although it remains to be seen how much Rangers want for a man who cost them more than €4m last summer.

Twente will presumably want to take advantage of the fact he’s not a part of Clement’s plans and they want him off of the wage bill, two facts that should perhaps bring that price down.

That remains to be seen but after a report in Italy yesterday making their interest clear, that’s now been backed up in the Netherlands, so it’s a situation to keep a close eye on moving forwards.
