Everton midfielder Amadou Onana will undergo a medical with Aston Villa on Sunday before completing his move to Villa Park.
That’s according to La Dernière Heure, who cover the impending transfer today and how it should be celebrated by Belgian and in particular, the Belgian national team.
They report that the Everton man has been scheduled for a medical at Aston Villa on Sunday, with him set to sign his contract not long after that.
A deal has been agreed worth around €60m in total, a figure which will make him the 8th most expensive Belgian player in history. And they believe the move is one that could help him to really kick on.
The newspaper argue that he has ‘not really had the opportunity to develop’ at Everton, where the constant threat of relegation in the last few years and ‘often very disappointing’ results, plus points deductions, did not help matters.
Aston Villa, though, will offer him a structure that is more stable sportingly, financially and above all, in terms of ambition too. The chance of playing in the Champions League in particular should be key to helping the player.
There’s also a belief he’s the ‘right profile’ for Unai Emery, who was looking for a versatile midfielder capable of playing at both ends of the pitch. The belief is the Everton man has the ‘ideal CV’. He will also be given more opportunities to shine with the ball in Emery’s system.
The belief is that he will be deployed alongside Youri Tielemans in the middle, which bodes well for the Belgian national team as the pair are likely to be central to Domenico Tedesco’s plans moving forwards.
It all depends on Emery, who they believe will help to develop Onana further at Aston Villa, after what they clearly think were a couple of wasted years at Everton.
