New PSV Eindhoven signing Couhaib Driouech has revealed he turned down Rangers to move to the Dutch club this summer.
The winger has been speaking to Voetbal International about his move to PSV and the other offers he had on the table, including one from Philippe Clement’s Rangers.
The 22-year-old completed a €3.5m move to PSV from Excelsior earlier this month after a three-year period with the latter after working his way up through Heerenveen’s youth ranks earlier in his career.
A tally of 16 goals and 16 assists in 101 games have seemingly convinced the Dutch champions to make their move this summer as they strengthen and look to defend their Eredivisie title.
The move to PSV had been long in the making as they had initially shown an interest in the January transfer window, but a deal was not done at that point, and they’ve instead signed him early on in this summer window.
They’re likely to be busy this summer reshaping the squad to better suit Philippe Clement’s needs, and it seems they had made their move for Driouech. He, though, turned them down as his focus was solely on PSV.
“There was a lot of interest, and also very specific. Rangers, Sevilla and Sporting Lisbon registered,” he said.
“They are all absolutely beautiful clubs, in great competitions, but I wanted to go to PSV. That club is also concrete and after the failure in the winter I always kept in touch with Earnest Stewart, and the way they treated me was very polite and warm.
“That felt very good, and I attach great importance to that. That’s why the choice was clear to me: I wanted to go to PSV.”
